DVT Prevention

In an effort to provide the highest level of cost-effective patient care, Benefit Risk Management Services is providing its members a cutting-edge Mechanical Compression Device for the prevention of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), also known as blood clots. Guidelines for Standard of Care set by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and American College of Chest Physicians all agree that the following patients are at a Medium to High risk for blood clots, and require a prevention treatment:.
Medication treatments such as blood thinners present additional risks such as bleeding, hematomas, rehospitalization, and wound infections (A.K.A secondary diagnosis).
Blood Clotting most often occurs in the lower limbs, but can occur in upper limbs and various area throughout the body as well. If a blood clot breaks off from the vein wall, it can travel to the lungs and create a blockage in the artery causing a Pulmonary Embolism (PE). Pulmonary embolism (PE), can cause breathlessness, severe chest pain, and even death. Blood clots reported effect over 900,000 Americans every year, and are responsible for over 100,000 deaths annually.

Comparison studies of mechanical compression devices and oral medication treatments for prevention of DVT, showed the same effectiveness. However, the oral medications showed significant differences in higher risks for secondary diagnosis, decreased patient care / satisfaction scores, and were an average of $369.50 more expensive per patient.
Rather than receiving expensive anti-coagulants such as Eliquis and Xarelto, members will be provided state-of-the-art mechanical compression devices and direct patient education. BRMS is committed to providing its members a service that is above the Standard Level of Care for DVT prevention! Your recognized vendor will be responsible for:
- Shipping devices directly to members’ homes within 48 hours of required use.
- Education through direct contact from a vendor service representative.
- Continued education through portals customized to BRMS's needs.
